Whilst staying at Alpine Park Cottages, we want you to enjoy your holiday, so have put together a list of free activities as well as some low cost ones and ways to save money too, to help you make the most of your time in Devon
Donkey Sanctuary, Sidmouth. Great for all ages and it’s free, apart from a treat in their wonderful café! Get up close to the very cute donkeys, read how they are cared for, explore the grounds and Children can have fun in the maze and play area.
Blue Plaque Trails, Sidmouth. Did you know that Queen Victoria stayed at the Royal Glen Hotel (formerly Kings Cottage) in Sidmouth? The Sid Valley association has created the Blue Plaque trail with 64 plaques located around the Town.
Rock Pooling at both Sidmouth and Exmouth at low tide, is a great way for children to get close to nature and explore the rock pools.
Farm Trail at Greendale Farm shop. Children can enjoy playing on the small play area, feed the animals. Get up close to the Emu and Ostrich!
Haldon Forest is owned by the forestry commission and here you will find walking and cycling trails weaving through the forest, as well as the Gruffalo orienteering trail for children. For older children and adults, you can swing and zip through the trees at Go Ape (Charges Apply)
Royal Albert Memorial Museum, Exeter RAMM have a range of fun things to do, from informative museum tours to fascinating interactive beastie bags.
Red Coat Guided Walks of Exeter. These FREE guided walking tours operate daily throughout the year, offering a wide range from which to choose. Meet your Red Coat Guide at the starting point and discover historic Exeter for yourself.
Ordnance Survey Dinosaur Trail Exmouth. Free activity for budding dinosaur hunters and adults alike that enjoy a challenge! Exmouth’s Brassed-Off Dinosaurs is self guided circular trail around Exmouth with clues to hunt and collect 11 brass rubbings of prehistoric creatures that once roamed earth; whilst learning more about their life.
Fossil hunting, a little further afield but popular with our guests is Fossil hunting at Charmouth.
The House of Marbles, Bovey Tracey. House of Marbles is a working glass and games factory set in a historic pottery. Attractions include museums, shop, restaurant and a large children's play area. Entry is free.
Buckfast Abbey, Buckfastleigh. Buckfast Abbey is home to a community of Roman Catholic Benedictine Monks, who live their lives of prayer, work and study according to the ancient rule of St Benedict.
RSPB nature reserves. The closest reserve to Alpine Park Cottages is Aylesbeare Common and can be accessed by walking from Alpine Park Cottages. RSPB Bowling Green Marsh has a hide and you can sit and enjoy the wildlife. RSPB Seaton Wetlands comprises an area of marshland and reedbeds next to the River Axe, between Sidmouth and Lyme Regis.
